1 QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Computer Science, Communication Engineering or similar degree or relevant work experience.
2 RESPONSIBILITIES: The Software Development Manager will be responsible for the following duties:
1) Co-ordinate all software activities
2) Provide appropriately experienced and trained software resources to Project Managers (PM) to meet project commitments. Note that resources allocated to PMs will report to their PM for day to day activities;
3) Ensure that appropriate processes and procedures are in place and are integrated into and compatible with the quality system;
4) Improve software processes with a view to third party accreditation;
5) Work towards continued productivity improvement of the software function;
6) Ensure, within budgetary constraints, that tools and physical resources are appropriate for software personnel;
7) Manage career structure for all software personnel, including involvement with performance reviews;
8) Provide input to costings for marketing during project bid/tender phase, ensuring that costs are adequate, accurate and competitive, subject to time constraints of the project;
9) Provide technical support to sales and marketing during project bid/tender phase, ensuring that appropriate documentation and solutions are provided as requested by the client contact (this is a technical support role with S&M managing the bid process);
10) Work within the financial and budgetary constraints of the company;
11) Contribute to annual budget preparation as it applies to the software function;
12) Liaise with software staff in other divisions to address issues of commonality and efficiency group-wide; and
13) Occupy a Project Lead role for major projects as required.
